THE DYNAMIC JOURNEY OF ISRAEL TOWARD PURE MONOTHEISM AND THE FOREIGN INFLUENCES ON ITS FORMATION

Abstract
The article deals with a theological-historical analysis of the dynamic formation of monotheism in Israel. Israel and its perception of God have undergone a long journey of purification from the assimilationist efforts that strongly influenced this development in the periods in question. We have focused on the period of Abraham, as the progenitor of the faith, who emerged from the general cultural perception of polytheism. The next period is the time of the Israelites in Egypt, which was perhaps the most crucial for the formation of monotheism. It was during this period, when henotheism prevailed, that God revealed His name, YHWH, through Moses. Ultimately, this formation culminated in the Babylonian captivity, which established a clear and direct monotheism through the prophets.
